Even if they don’t like you very much for doing it.

Isn’t it strange that most peoples definition of Love is: You will love me no matter what.

Love is doing what is right for the person(s) you have made that commitment to! Even if they don’t like you very much for doing it.

  • Do you love your children more if you see them lighting the stove and say “oh well” I will love you after you have been burned? Of course not…. You love them by stopping them, even if they don’t like you very much for doing it.
  • Do you love your grandchild more if you see them riding their bike in the street and say “oh well” I will love them after that car hits them? Of course not… You love them by stopping them, even if they don’t like you very much for doing it.
  • Do you love your grown children by allowing them to have an attitude of entitlement that says “You owe me”?  Of course not… you love them by letting them know that you are not a bank, baby sitter, bail bondsman, or a hotel. They have got to live based on the values you raised them on, even if they don’t like you very much for doing it.

I know I know, what does that have to do with adults? It has to this to do with it…..

  • Do you let a spouse or friend drink or do drugs and drive? Of course not you tell them I love you enough to stop you from making getting arrested, killing yourself, or killing someone else. Even if they don’t like you very much for doing it.
  • Do you let friends and family take advantage of others, expect things they haven’t earned, knowing full well that they are building resentment, disrespect. Of course not, you let them know exactly what they are doing and what is expected of them, even if they don’t like you very much for doing it.
I am certainly not saying that I am perfect. I have the same issues as everyone else. The only difference is I have stopped long enough to think about it and made the commitment to those I have said “I Love You” too, to do what is right for them, even if they don’t like me very much for doing it.  My response? It’s ok. I know  that I love you even if you don’t.
